Those at Saturday’s (20th March) meeting may be interested to know that we were not all hallucinating about a car called a ‘Daf’ (but not Daff). It really does exist, although production ceased long ago. Much ridiculed at the time, it was nevertheless probably more advanced than the East German Trabant (not difficult). Amazing where poetry can lead. Be sure not to miss the next meeting; whatever next, Martian Rovers, X-15 rocket planes ?

I wonder if there is much poetry inspired by technology, consumer goods, advertising, etc. Possibly a subject for the future (don’t all shout at once !). There is a wonderful rap inspired by the ‘Large Hadron Collider’, but I’ve banged on enough about that previously.

I’ve long roved lonely, hot and cold,
o’er Martian deserts dusty,
but now I’m stuck, what rotten luck,
my joints have all gone rusty.
But NASA have been on to it,
and found me in a crater,
a little green man,
and his oil can,
will come and fix me later.
(I’ll not give up the day job just yet.)

Can the little green man do anything for my rusty joints please?
